Hi, I am Becky Traptow, a Somatic (body) Therapist, Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist, Human Development and Transformation Guide as well as a Re-wilding specialist.
Welcome to Our Sacred Wellness. Sacred, because healing ourselves is the most important work we can do for ourselves, our families and our planet, and wellness, because we have within us an inherent wellness, a wholeness that is untouched by our trauma and if we learn to access it, we can heal.
The five most important areas we will focus on for your deep, transformative, long lasting healing are:
Number one: Our Body Our body is where we store our unresolved material. It holds our losses, our overwhelming experiences, our pain, our childhood, our tension, our stress, and our emotions, conscious and unconscious ones. We know we are holding some of our unresolved story because we are human, we tend to avoid our emotional pain, we carry chronic physical pain and tension and we have body breakdowns, disconnection and dis-eases. Our body uses our muscles and connective tissue to contain our story, starting from early on in our lives. It is also so brilliant that it will use physical pain in order to distract us from the emotional pain we carry. Physical pain is more acceptable to have than deep, emotional pain. Accessing our unresolved story through our body is key to deep healing. Our body never lies; it says what we can't and it will tell you what still needs to be healed. The model I use for bodywork comes from many sources, including but not limited to, the work of Peter Levine, Marion Rosen, Ged Sumner, Kathy Kain and Suzanne Skurlock.
Number Two: Working with ourselves and our many 'parts'. One of the most effective ways to heal ourselves is to realize that we are 'many' selves. This is known as parts therapy. We are made up of a whole Self, an Us that is untouched by our trauma and is capable of healing the rest of us, and our sub-personalities, our parts. These parts are our inner critic, wounded children, escapist/addicts and our shadow selves. Learning to discern who is speaking in us (wholeness or sub-personalities) at any given moment, is one of the greatest skills we can develop. The more we learn to cultivate access to our wholeness and work with our sub-personalities, the more we will function as a healthy, mature adult. We are then able to respond to our lives not react to them. We befriend the many parts of us, learn their story, feel their stuck feelings, give them the care they never received but always wanted and we move them from being stuck in the past to being here with us in the present. This alone in life changing. The model I use for this work is called Wild Mind, developed by Bill Plotkin.
Number Three: Emotional Skills We have all learned which emotions were acceptable to have and which were not, according to our family and culture of origin. We all have buried emotions. We all need to learn healthy ways of working with our own emotional selves. There are core emotions: anger, sadness, joy, excitement, disgust, sexual excitement and fear. These core emotions carry a physical sensation as well as an inherent action. Because we did not (usually) have healthy examples of adults who knew how to feel and work with emotions, we learned to stuff or spew ours. Learning to tolerate the physical sensation inherent in our emotions and discovering the movement they are asking for, is necessary in becoming healthy adults. If we cannot tolerate our core emotions, we will use our inhibitory emotions. Our inhibitory emotions are guilt, shame and anxiety. Once these are triggered, we are usually pushed into our many defensive strategies. In order to heal, we have to learn to stay with our core emotions and find out what they are asking of us. The model I use for this work is the Change Triangle, developed by Hillary Jacobs Hendel.
Number Four: Re-wilding in Nature This necessary element is often missing in our healing modalities. The world around us and our place in it and connection to it is vital to our healing. Bill Plotkin calls eco-awakening, the process of waking up to the world around us and that it is as alive as we are, a vital stage in our development as human beings. Without it, we cannot become mature, healthy humans. What does this look like? Realizing that the earth is always offering herself to us and that we get to offer ourselves back. It means we can take what we learn about ourselves through our bodywork and our parts therapy and go out in nature to see how these parts of us are mirrored back to us. It means we can discover ourselves and our place in the world as vital to our own existence as well as the planets. It means we can find out what our unique place (our soul) in the world and the unique gift that only we can offer to the world. Just like the acorn contains the oak tree, we contain the seeds to our own unfolding. Nature will show us how. The model I use for this is from the work of Bill Plotkin and Animas Valley Institute.
Number Five - Soul Centric Dreamwork Did you know we can build our wholing and healing work around our dreams? I mean the ones we receive each night from our psyche (soul). We can! In fact, paying attention to our dreams is a vital piece of the puzzle. Our dreams are offered to us as a gift each night of our lives. Not paying attention to them is like receiving a letter each and every day and never opening it to see what it says. Adding dream work, especially for dreams that stay with you, trouble you, evoke some intense feeling or ones that just seem important, is deeply transformative. Our dreams will tell us where we are stuck, what direction we need to move to grow, what is in our shadow and what needs healing. If you have never tried working with your dreams, I encourage you to try it. Book a session and enter the world of your dream and see what gifts it offers you.
These tools and processes help us move from disillusionment, crisis and the loss of our dreams to wholeness, living our Truth, being at home in our body, and loving the life we are living.
What I offer
In-person Somatic (body) Therapy
The somatic therapy I offer is a relational touch therapy that focuses on deeply listening to the body so that we can resolve trauma, release tension, find our feeling selves and experience lasting change in ourselves, our relationships and our world. I combine Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, Rosen Method Bodywork, both trauma informed, and Wild Mind Wholing work to create a unique experience for each client. This is a light touch, body-led, safely paced process so that clients can be with and integrate their experiences on the massage table.
These sessions might be a fit for you if you… -have chronic tension -have trouble sleeping -have auto-immune issues -have experienced trauma - emotional, physical, mental, relational, religious or sexual -have had a traumatic birth experience -have had a car accident or accidents -have been injured -have had a surgery or surgeries -are in a time of transition, the old is not working but the new is not yet known. -are seeking transformation or new ways of doing things -feel stuck, mentally, emotionally or physically -recognize that you do not have access to the full range of your emotional capabilities -want to befriend yourself -want to change your relationship to your body -realize you don’t ‘live’ in your body but would like to - you are aware of your body but don’t feel in it -recognize you are holding things in your body but don’t know how to access them or release them -recognize yourself as being stuck in a fight, flight or freeze response to life -don’t feel like you can access or live from your heart -have trouble accessing the ‘knowing’ of your gut
Recommended number of sessions depends on client’s goals and desires during this process but I suggest committing to 3 sessions and going from there. This can be short-term bodywork for pain management and resolving tension and/or long term process work for resolving trauma and moving from our survival story to our sacred dance. In bodywork, the body is unlikely to offer what it has been holding if we push our way in which is why this approach is gentle and safe. The process of befriending ourselves and all that we have stored, turning toward our pain and integrating it, is not a fast one, nor should it be. We did not get this way overnight, we will not fix it that way either. 1 hour session, sliding scale rate of $100 - $150 Email me at email@example.com to book
Transformative Mentorship, Online sessions using bodywork, parts therapy, dreamwork, developmental stages, emotional intelligence and re-wilding in nature.
I love my online sessions with clients. We are able to incorporate parts therapy, bodywork and ideas for ongoing work in nature, and have even done online, outdoor nature sessions. Anything is possible. My clients find these sessions very helpful and life changing. They have put together pieces from their past, healed their wounded children, discovered and began to work with inner protectors (inner critics), become able to name and be with deep feelings and discover and release what they are storing in their body by way of chronic tension and chronic pain. It is amazing what we can uncover together and how you can learn to do the work of discerning and feeling what is happening in your body and to be able to connect it to your unresolved past so you can move forward into your future. What is necessary for growth and transformation is our commitment to the journey. It takes a bit to become aware of how we put ourselves together to survive, what in us needs healing, find what we put away, and to discover who we truly are. Please do not expect to unravel it all in one session. Moving at a slow, safe pace helps us to descend and to descend well so that we are able to be equipped for the journey.
1 hour online session, sliding scale rate of $100 - $150. I also offer these as a 3 or 6 month package. See the Ways we Can Work Together page for details and pricing. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to book.
Re-Wilding In addition to the above offering of somatic therapy and online wholeness sessions, I love to offer combined bodywork and nature-based therapy. This is custom made for the client based on what they have discovered in bodywork sessions. This can involve ideas for wanders in nature that would help the client deepen into their own process and can also involve a guided re-wilding experience. This involves heading out to some wild locations for a 1.5 hour session with nature as mirror, inviting wholeness and sub-personalities to be seen, heard and integrated. This is a powerful addition to bodywork and very helpful for processing and embodying what has been revealed so far in sessions. 1.5 hour session, sliding scale rate $125 - $175 Email email@example.com to book.
Soul-centric Dreamwork In a dreamwork session, we will enter the world of your dream. You will be guided in this process and the dream will be invited to do it's work on you . You will befriend parts of yourself as they show up in your dream, turn toward what is difficult, imagine what else is offering itself to you, and have invitations for ongoing, deepening work. In soulcentric dream work, we do not analyze the dream, instead we enter it and befriend it. We ask, "Why has this dream come?" "Who is visiting me?" "What am I being asked to see, feel, hear, experience?" The dream is an invitation. It invites transformation, healing, inquiry, discovery, feeling, connection... It wants to show you something that you do not know, take you places you don't want to go, feel things you might not want to feel, expand you in ways you might be afraid to expand. It wants to take you deeper into who you are, what you are here for and what you are doing that is no longer serving you. It seeks your growth, change, healing and transformation and it offers this to you every, single night. 1 hour online session, sliding scale rate of $100 - $150 Email firstname.lastname@example.org to book.
